Cooper ended his 2009 Lacrosse Season on an extremely high note; he received the only given award, The Sportsmanship Award!
His coach gave a very wonderful speech. A speech about a player who ran across the field ready for every practice, a player who would finish every practice by running back across the field to the parking lot. A speech about a player who would take multiple hits during practice but this player would jump right up with a smile on his face ready to take them again. He mentioned that this player was a leader, who gave the game his all, a player that all other players should strive to be, a player that just wanted to PLAY THE GAME. He talked about how this player snuck on the team (it was a 3rd and 4th grade team and this player is only in 2nd grade). He talked about several more awesome things this player did during the season but when I realized he was talking about my Cooper, I blocked most of the rest out. The speech moved me to TEARS! I mean real tears rolling down my face. NO LIE!
The award read: Sportsmanship Award to Cooper for being an outstanding player, teammate, team leader, and for exemplifying what every player should strive to achieve.
Sure, I have been proud about what Cooper has accomplished this season with lacrosse – his skills, his goals, his assists. HOWEVER, this award is so much more than his ability; it is about his effort and his leadership!
Cooper you make a mama so proud. You are an amazing little boy and you will go very far in life with your can do, happy go lucky, I can do this attitude. You make me smile and my heart sing. I love your stinky rotten wild little lacrosse loving guts.
Rule:
Go ahead, be proud and encourage dreams.
